FTA - "Networking vendors have stepped up lobbying efforts around the proposed National Broadband Network to get a slice of what could be up to $25 billion. Juniper Networks claims to have been `fairly vocal' in its efforts, and has made a submission on what it believes to be an `optimal architecture'. This would be designed with IPv6 in mind from day one, according to Shaun Page, vice president A/NZ for Juniper. "We're making ourselves heard," Page told iTNews. "NBN is going to be a good thing for all equipment vendors. We watch with intent as [the debate] plays out." Juniper Networks already claims to have 90 percent of Australia's broadband remote access market routing through Unisphere equipment."

This is the problem (FTA) - "It is now clear the original optimistic IPv6 deployment plans have failed...Based on our analysis, at the current rate of adoption, we are a decade or more away from pervasive adoption of dual stack support for IPv6." ... also, a sidenote, remember - lies, damned lies and statistics - take this with a grain of salt ...

FTA - "What may turn out to be the world's largest IPv6 network is going to be using Juniper Networks's routing platform to handle the next generation of Internet traffic. Juniper has announced that the China Next Generation Internet (CNGI) IPv6 project will be powered by Juniper's M- and T-series routing platforms. Financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed. China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) launched the CNGI initiative in 2003 with the goal of creating a countrywide IPv6 backbone. CNGI is projected to include 39 GigaPOP network points of presence covering 20 cities across China. "

FTA - "In preparation for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ministerial meeting titled "The Future of the Internet Economy" in Seoul next month, the OECD released a report analyzing the rapid depletion of IPv4 addresses. The report cites the commonly held wisdom that addresses for the currently used version of the Internet Protocol (IP) will run out at some time in 2011. With that in mind, the authors recognize that, if we have to choose among wider use of NAT, allowing for address trading, and adopting IPv6, the latter is the only option that works in the long run.
